Howard County Conservancy

The Howard County Conservancy at Mt. Pleasant is a 300-year-old farm now operating as a nature reserve and educational facility. The Conservancy, originally founded in 1990 as a private, nonprofit land
trust, has a dual mission of preserving land in Howard County and providing educational programs.

The Conservancy has been educating Howard County youth since 1997 and has been an Educational Partner with the Howard County Public School System since 2003. The location hosts around 25,000 + visitors through public programs, summer nature camp, and other various events held throughout the year. Children and adults alike discover the wonders of bees through presentations and hands-on observations of honey bees. Honey bee and pollinator presentations are given to scout programs, school’s out days, summer camps, and other public programs.

HCBA currently has two hives at the Howard County Conservancy that are HCBA property (beekeeper Devon Kosisky). Each year, HCBA provides an in-depth apiary tour and honey for the Wine in the Garden Auction winner (May). HCBA also has a vendor booth at the Conservancy’s annual Fall Festival (October) and Natural Holiday Sale (December).
