I have not seen any studies that would indicate how superior is wax coated hive body compared to the painted hive body. Mannlake supplier claims 25 years longevity. Certainly, commercial beekeepers still prefer painted hive bodies.
Since the bottom board is the first part of a hive body that requires to be replaced, I will start using this year wax coated bottom boards to see how much longer they last.
