Wrapping the hive for winter

We are approaching our first winter as beekeepers, and we are wondering about whether we should wrap our hive with insulation or not. All thoughts welcome, thank you!

For the Langstroth, we bought a velcro closed insulation pad designed for a deep frame - in our case- an 8-frame. For the horizontal top bar, we bought a roll of insulation from Home Depot and wrapped in a spiral.
