Hi, Bill - I wouldn't worry about a few lady bugs... they feast on small bugs like aphids and are considered a beneficial insect in the garden. In the winter, they look for a place to cluster for warmth to wait out the winter, so I'm thinking these ladies are only looking for a place to overwinter, and will not pose any threat to your girls.

Hi, Eric - I agree with Phil on the Queen question. For the ants, I'd recommend that you get some cinder blocks or such and raise the colonies off the ground. To me, being on the ground creates a 'drive through' for ants and other things. To disrupt the ant trails, and to prevent them from getting a grip to climb up and into your boxes, I use AntCant: https://www.amazon.com/AntCant-barrier-coating-inclined-surfaces/dp/B07D53ZXK9 I put it around around the legs of my stand and around the middle of the bottom box. I reapply when I see that the ants are climbing again. It has worked for me. Good luck!

I personally, would not use any type of insecticide on my yard. If it is designed to kill insects, bees are insects.
